Though it’s known as Steeltown to most, Hamilton has a lot more to offer visitors and locals than just its industrious history. In fact, there’s something the city has put an admirable amount of effort into that’s just as deserving of people’s attention: Hamilton’s Waterfront.
Throughout the years, the waterfront has continuously been transformed into a space for visitors to freely enjoy the natural beauties of the city, like Lake Ontario. And what better time to uncover its full potential than the sunny months of summer?

If you’re simply looking to appreciate the scenery, the waterfront’s easily accessible trails and parks will be of interest to you. Bayfront Park offers ample space surrounded by nature, perfect for taking a peaceful walk, biking along the lake, or even having a picnic. And for the kids looking for a little more fun, Pier 4 Park features a playground built to entertain, equipped with a large tugboat play structure for children to explore.
Aside from the everyday attractions, Hamilton also hosts a variety of events on the waterfront throughout the summer. Arriving in July at Bayfront Park is the Because Beer Craft Beer Festival, where ticket-holders can sample a wide variety of local craft beers while enjoying live music performances. Also in July, Brott Music on the Waterfront offers free, hour-long orchestral performances against the backdrop of the lake, making for an unforgettable experience.
Can’t forget about Canada Day! Head down to Bayfront Park to celebrate the holiday with a day full of family-friendly activities and delicious food. And when the sun sets, prepare for a dazzling firework show to end off the night.

Other events happening down at the waterfront include Pier 8’s Outdoor Roller-Skating Rink. Whether you’re new to the rink or a seasoned pro, all are invited to skate to their heart’s content. And in August, Lucky Lion Night Market makes its annual return—offering a colourful celebration of culture, traditional food, and exciting performances, this is an event that everyone can enjoy!
